Story about Rhona*
A lost sheep!
On a Sunday morning we decided to visit a church in a shopping mall. This was the very first time that we went to this mall on a Sunday morning. After the service we met a girl in the mall, begging for money. There are lots of people begging outside but why this girl and why here inside the mall? We invited her for a coffee to listen to her story.
Rhona* was not raised by her parents but in another family. When she was a teenager, this family left her behind with an aunt. A difficult and hard time followed.
She decided to start a life on her own when she was 15 years old and got a first job in a bar. She also started dating men, she was locked up in a hotel room for 3 days, forced to use drugs and being raped many times. Physical and sexual abused.
A life followed with different boyfriends who took advantage of her and abused her. Working in bars and on the streets. Loosing herself and living by the day. This went on for 13 years! A life with violence, drugs, trying to survive and also to step out of life. Until we found her in the mall on a Sunday morning!
We offered her a safe place in our house, she immediately decided to come with us. We got her bag with some clothes from the street and took her in our home.
Together we fought the addiction with prayer. To God be the glory! She said “ This is the first time I can see the real Rhona again !
*Rhona is not her real name. We changed it for safty reasons
